MarketEngine: AI-Powered Marketing Platform for Startups and SMBs
As the sole UX/Product Designer, I led the design of MarketEngine, an AI-powered end-to-end marketing web platform for startups and SMBs. This project involved close collaboration with the CEO and Product Manager to create an innovative solution that secured ~$1M in pre-release bookings within six months.
Note: Due to privacy constraints, I cannot share additional UI examples at this stage. However, my process is detailed below.
Challenge
StartupWind aimed to develop a comprehensive marketing platform that would streamline and automate marketing processes for startups and SMBs. The challenge was to create an intuitive, user-friendly interface that could meet the diverse needs of both internal teams and external users.
Goal
The primary goal of the MarketEngine project was to develop an AI-powered end-to-end marketing platform that would empower startups and SMBs to efficiently manage their marketing efforts. We aimed to create a user-friendly, feature-rich solution that would streamline marketing processes, leverage AI capabilities, and provide measurable value to our target users.
Our objective was to design an intuitive product that would allow businesses and MarketEngine experts to create solid marketing content, create campaigns, and execute campaigns.
Process
Understanding User Needs
I began by engaging in extensive discussions with the CEO and Product Manager to gain insights into the needs of both internal teams and external users. These iterative conversations provided valuable context about user workflows and pain points in marketing for startups and SMBs.
My role involved synthesizing this information into actionable insights. I created user flows and identified key features to help our users generate content, create campaigns, and execute them. Simultaneously, I conducted market research to ensure our solution would be competitive and innovative in the rapidly evolving business landscape.
Design & Iteration
With a clear understanding of user needs, I began the design phase using Figma. Stemming from initial sketches, I developed high-fidelity wireframes for MarketEngine, focusing on creating a cohesive and efficient user experience across all platform components, from the main dashboard to specific tool interfaces.
Throughout the collaborative iterative process, I created interactive prototypes to demonstrate user flows and functionality, then presented these to the CEO and Product Manager for feedback. Their input was helpful, often leading to significant improvements in the design. This iterative approach allowed us to refine the product continuously, ensuring it met both user needs and business objectives.
Implementation & Quality Assurance
As we moved into the implementation phase, my focus shifted to translating designs into detailed user stories in Jira. This process required a deep understanding of both user needs and technical feasibility, ensuring that each feature was clearly defined for the development team.
Collaboration with developers became a key part of my role. I regularly communicated design specifications and rationales, clarifying any questions to ensure accurate implementation. Throughout the development process, I conducted ongoing design quality assurance, verifying that the implemented features aligned with the intended user experience.
This phase highlighted the importance of cross-functional collaboration and clear communication as we worked together to ship the product.
